Next up in my musical journey I wanted to start with a base to work from, and remix something. I absolutely adore some of the trance classics, and so I picked Shine, by The Space Brothers, released in 1999.
I have to say I was nervous for two reasons, one I’m taking on an absolute classic, and the risk was spending a lot of time working on something, that was insulting to the original and of course I would never let see the light of day. Secondly, I don’t know a lot around the legality surrounding remixing, or the etiquette. The absolutely last thing I wanted to do was annoy anyone!
So I made the track, and it did take a while before I was happy with it. I listened to it on headphones, single speakers, monitor speakers and in the car to make sure it sounded good everywhere, something I do with all the tracks I’m making. Finally I was happy.
However I didn’t post it anywhere, for fear of upsetting someone; the original producers or someone associated with them. I did a load of research and it’s a great area but essentially contracting the producer, especially if you know them seemed the way to go. I felt convinced if I messaged anyone on it my message wouldn’t get through, lost in the probably thousands of other daily messages.
So after a couple of weeks I just released it, my audience is tiny, essentially close friends and so I hoped it wouldn’t get noticed. I’m not doing any of this music creation for financial gain either, so I hoped that would help me stay out of trouble! If I did get my collar felt over it, I’d just give them the master and they can have it, no worries – that was my plan.
So, here it is, hope you like it and I hope I don’t get into any trouble! (The vocals and second lead are from the original, everything else I’ve written and created). Also posted a link to the original, it is an absolute classic!
