I’ve spent most of today on the motorway for one reason or another, and so it seemed fitting to take a photograph of it! I didn’t want to just do another long exposure though……..
I also really enjoyed photographing the night sky yesterday, and tonight the sky looked really nice and moody, no stars of course, but a big bright moon and loads of fast moving clouds!
I hatched a plan to incorporate a long exposure of the motorway and it’s traffic, along with the night sky, it’s bright moon and dense cloud cover.
It wasn’t easy though, I needed to find a composition that made sense, without having a tiny moon at the top of the frame and a tiny bit of streaking lights at the bottom, with nothing in the middle.
In the end, I incorporated some railings, the lines of the head lights and trees leading into the distance, and really made a feature of the clouds mid ground, all being lit by the moon top and centre.
I have to say, I’m really pleased with it! The only thing I’m not 100% happy with is there is a little too much noise on the right hand side in the clouds. The image was a little unbalanced in the sky, and so I lightened some of the cloud to balance it, which introduced a touch too much noise.
I think, I’ve just about gotten away with it, but I would like to have another crack at this image and hopefully the clouds will be a little more on my side.
Learnings – Just be brave, if you have an idea go for it, what’s the worst that can happen, a little noise!?
